What to Expect in the First 21 Days of Your Weight Loss Journey

One of the things we focus on at Youology & Co. is helping you feel strong, confident, and comfortable in your body, especially when it comes toEmpowered-Midlife-woman weight loss in midlife.

If that’s something you’re working on, I see you. I’ve been there. My cousin used to call me “Oprah” because my weight would fluctuate so much!

Now that I’m older, my weight has stabilised – but that’s also because I’ve changed how I live. I’ve trained as a certified weight loss coach, and I understand what’s going on physiologically, especially in a midlife body.

(And let’s be honest… not attending product launch events filled with champagne, chocolate, and cupcakes has helped too! Former beauty editor problems, right?)

Why Weight Loss Gets Harder As We Age

When I hit 40, I could no longer shift weight just by cutting back for a few days. Can you relate?

A mix of perimenopause, stress, wine, and a cupboard full of kids’ snacks – thanks to my lovely ex-mother-in-law – meant I gained 20kg during perimenopause.

The turning point came when I got sick, reassessed my lifestyle, and made some deep changes. From that, my body began to balance out again, and I’m here to help you do the same.

Let’s Be Real: Weight Loss Isn’t Easy

what-to-expect-on-days-1-21-of-a-weight-loss-journey That’s one reason I became a certified holistic health coach: to help women find peace with their weight, hormones, and skin.

And that’s how Youology & Co. was born.

Weight loss can be hard, especially in those first 21 days. But the magic is in the momentum. Once you start feeling better, sleeping better, and noticing looser clothes, it becomes addictive in the best way.

The First 21 Days: What to Expect

Whether you’re doing our 21-Day Hormone Detox, the 5-Day Reset, or your own path, here’s a roadmap of what you might experience.

Day 1: Excitement & Motivation

You’re ready! You’ve cleaned out your pantry, stocked up on the good stuff, and maybe even bought a journal to track your progress.

You’re motivated to ditch the weight, and nothing’s going to stop you.

Tip: Tell your friends and family what you’re doing and ask for their support. Cakes and wine? Not today, thanks.

Days 2–7: Cravings, Fatigue & Irritability

This first week is a challenge. Your body is adjusting to less sugar, caffeine, alcohol, or processed foods. Your stomach is shrinking. (Fun fact: it’s only the size of a fist – but it expands with volume.)

Expect hunger, mood swings, and “what was I thinking?” moments.

My tip?
A spoonful of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) helps curb hunger. It’s also anti-inflammatory, so great for joints and your skin.

Snack smart: A few almonds or an apple with peanut butter. If you’re intermittent fasting, keep snacks within your eating window.

Hang in there. Days 3–6 are usually the toughest. DM us if you need a pep talk!

Days 8–10: The Danger Zone

You may have lost a kilo or two, but the novelty wears off. This is the temptation window where many people give up.

Please don’t.

Push through this hump, and your body – and mindset – will reward you.

Join our Facebook group or message us directly for support. You don’t have to do it alone.

Days 11–21: You’ve Got This

weight-loss-the-first-21-daysYour cravings have calmed. You’re eating more vegetables. You’re sleeping better. Your blood sugar is stabilising and your mood is lifting.

You may have lost 1.5–3kgs (or more). Your clothes are looser. You feel lighter – mentally and physically.

If it feels easier now, it’s because your habits are kicking in. Your hormones are settling. Your body is starting to trust you again.

Trouble Losing Weight? It Might Be Insulin Resistance

If you’re still struggling to shift weight despite doing “everything right,” you may have insulin resistance. This becomes more common in midlife and menopause.

Insulin resistance makes it harder to process carbs and sugar efficiently, which means more fat storage. It’s often the result of long-term dietary habits, but hormones play a role too.

The good news? We can help you work through it and personalise a plan.

weight-loss-the-first-21-daysIf You’ve Made It This Far – Well Done!

Getting to day 21 is an incredible achievement. You’ve overcome cravings, built new habits, and started to see and feel results.

Put your hand in the air, turn it around, and pat yourself on the back!
